After a disappointing loss that ended their winning streak, the National University Lady Bulldogs bounced back at the expense of the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-22, 24-26, 26-24, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

After losing the extended second frame, 1-1, the Lady Bulldogs responded and returned the favor in another deuce. Vange Alinsug and Bella Belen provided the finishing touches, tooling the FEU blockers for back-to-back off-the-block kills.

In the fourth set, the defending champions took advantage of the momentum and quickly mounted a 19-10 lead. However, the Lady Tamaraws responded with an 8-2 run, and was able to come within three points, 21-18.

NU knew better and prevented an extension as they answered back with their own 4-0 run to finish off FEU in four sets. With Alinsug in the service line, Belen took charge in the last few points, including the match-clinching point.

Alyssa Solomon was the top scorer for NU with season-high 30 points on 26 attacks, three kill blocks, and a service ace as the Lady Bulldogs remain atop the rankings.

Belen continued to strengthen her MVP chances, tallying 15 attacks, three kill blocks, 14 excellent digs, and 13 excellent receptions.

Meanwhile, Faida Bakanke led FEU with 21 points, supported by the middle tandem of Jean Asis and Jaz Ellarina who finished with 16 and 15 markers, respectively. Despite the loss, the Lady Tamaraws are still at third spot of the standings.
