With a futuristic theme that wowed the audience, their spellbinding performance definitely put them several light years away, too far to reach for the other teams. Consistency with their united dance moves and hair-rising perfect throws, NU was unstoppable in claiming the championship trophy once again.

“I told them to just polish the routine, make it smooth and make it safe. Syempre pinakaimportante pa rin yung safety ng mga bata. And then everything will just follow,” said NU Coach Ghicka Bernabe.

NU topped both the main cheerdance competition and the stunts competition. From the tally posted by ABS-CBN, they had a total of 711 points (89 from tumbling, 87 from stunts, 82 from tosses, 84 from pyramids, and 370 from dance). They had a near-perfect performance with little errors that they were only deducted with one point.

Far Eastern University Cheering Squad shocked the crowd with a different themed routine, spreading some broadway magic in the coliseum. They finished second place with a total of 658.5 points.

University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe fell short this year, finishing only in fourth place (650), followed by University of the East in fifth place (645). De La Salle University Animo Squad finished in sixth place (560.5) while the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Babble Battalion finished last (512).

On the stunts competition, NU topped with 249 points. While the former stunts champions UST finished second this season with 229 points. FEU finished third with 204 points.

The University of the Philippines did not join the competition this season.

It was a thrilling moment for all the universities, with over 17,000 people crowded in the coliseum, all wearing their school’s color and beaming with pride.

Adamson lit their lights up, while NU wore neon-colored shirts. UST, FEU, DLSU and Ateneo all cheered loudly and proudly with their school’s drums banging with the crowd. And nothing beats a newly-engaged couple from the UE crowd.

Until next season, the crowd will have to wait for another moment like this.
