The National University Lady Bulldogs wasted no time as they swept the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15 in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After a tight first set, NU did not look back in the second and third frames as Alyssa Solomon and Vange Alinsug combined forces to bombard Ateneo with strong offense.
In the third set, the Lady Bulldogs were able to quickly establish a 20-12 cushion. With a huge advantage, NU was able to field their second stringers but it was still Solomon and Alinsug who finished off the Lady Eagles in a straight set victory.
Solomon unleashed team-high 23 points built on 19 attacks and four service aces, while Alinsug provided the back-up contributions with 15 markers, 14 of which came from attacks. Meanwhile, Bella Belen struggled with back pain and was held down to just two points.
NU tallies their ninth win in 11 games this season and remains on track on the semis bonus hunt.
Meanwhile, no Atenean was in double digits with AC Miner only finishing with nine points. They are now on the verge of missing the Final Four for the second straight season.
