After suffering their first loss of the season, the National University Lady Bulldogs vented their ire on the University of the East Lady Warriors with a straight-set victory, 25-19, 25-10, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The defending champions struggled in the opening set with UE building a 15-9 lead. However, Vange Alinsug, Arah Panique, and Celine Marsh recovered just in time to respond with a 16-4 run to avoid being down by a set.
The momentum from the huge run in the first frame continued in the succeeding sets as the Lady Bulldogs dominated the Lady Warriors to get their much-needed bounce back win that put them again in the winning column.
Panique led NU with 12 points on 10 attacks and two kill blocks. Alinsug added 10, while Marsh stepped up with 11 points as the Lady Bulldogs missed the presence of super rookie Sam Cantada who unfortunately injured her shin in their last game against UP.
Meanwhile, Van Bangayan top scored for UE with 12 points as the Lady Warriors suffered their fifth straight loss this season.
NU (4-1) will hope to continue their winning ways against Ateneo (0-5) before they face La Salle in their final match this first round. UE (0-5) will aim to get their first win against the streaking Lady Spikers (5-0).
