NU clinches second win, sweeps Adamson

By Ardyn Gonzales

After winning in their first game, the defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs made it two in a row, sweeping the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-23, 25-19, 28-26, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila City.

Down 0-2, Adamson almost extended the match after reaching set point in the third set, 24-23.

However, NU had other plans as they forced a deuce with Sam Cantada’s off-the-block attack. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Falcons exchanged a series of points until the match point switched to NU, 27-26.

A timely service ace from Alexa Mata sealed the Lady Bulldogs’ second win this season.

Cantada once again led NU with 16 points on 13 attacks, one block, and two service aces against her former teammates in Adamson. Arah Panique continued to deliver as a starter with 13 points of her own, while Vange Alinsug, Cham Maaya, and Mata contributed six points each.

Meanwhile, the tandem of Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi produced 18 and 16 points, respectively, for the Lady Falcons.

NU (2-0) will face FEU (1-1) in their next match, while Adamson (1-1) will hope to bounce back against UE (0-2).
