The defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs started the season with a dominating win over last season’s bronze medalists Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Sunday, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
After establishing a 2-0 advantage in the match, NU continued their dominance as they quickly built a 16-4 lead in the third set. With solid contributions from Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, and Evangeline Alinsug, the Lady Bulldogs reached match point with a double-digit advantage.
However, Ateneo tried to catch up with a 5-0 run before Faith Nisperos committed an error in her jump serve which sealed the first victory of NU in their title retention bid.
Current Best Opposite Spiker Alyssa Solomon led NU with 12 points on 10 attacks, one block, and a service ace, while graduating team captain Cess Robles added 10.
AC Miner was the top scorer for Ateneo with nine points as Faith Nisperos was limited to just eight.
