The 2019 NBA 3X Philippines presented by AXA is happening this weekend at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. Monte Morris of the Denver Nuggets, NBA Legend Muggsy Bogues and Toronto Raptors’ Mascot, the Raptor are in town to grace the yearly 3-on-3 hoops tournament.
Muggsy Bogues was one of the coaches for Jr. NBA Philippines back in 2013 and he’s obviously happy to be back in Manila.
“It’s great! It’s amazing coming back here, you know. Your hospitality has been unbelievable,” Bogues said with a big smile.
The current franchise leader in assists and steals for the Charlotte Hornets says 3-on-3 basketball is an opportunity to showcase a player’s talents.
“Everybody plays 3-on-3. 3-on-3 basketball is part of the game – it’s half-court. It gives you an opportunityto really showcase your talents,” the NBA Legend said. “In terms of as a team, setting screens, cutting, you know a lot of fundamental stuff goes on in half-court basketball.”
With young Kai Sotto making a lot of buzz in the hoops world lately, Bogues had nothing but things to say about him and thinks he has a chance at being drafted in the NBA. He even offered some advice for the 7’2” Filipino Baller.
“He has a chance, you know. He’s at the right place,” Bogues said. “Getting tutelage, a lot information and that’s where you start. A guy his size needs to continue to understand his game at a high level because he can impact it in so many ways.”
“By him being there, getting his information, being trained on a day-to-day basis, it’s definitely gonna benefit him. I’ll be looking forward to seeing him in the draft upcoming [sic] soon,” the former Washington Bullets/Charlotte Hornets/Golden State Warriors/Toronto Raptors Point Guard added.
