Manila, Philippines – Mapua University ended their NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball campaign on a high note after defeating Arellano University, 91-78, on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Veterans Laurenz Victoria and Noah Lugo scored big points in the third quarter to stretch the Cardinals’ lead to 10 points and pull away from the gritty Chiefs, 67-57.
Mapua took a 10-2 run in the payoff period to secure a comfortable 18-point cushion, 77-59.
Time ran out before Arellano could even cut the deficit to a single digit.
The Cardinals improved their final output in the NCAA with a 6-12 win-loss record, which proved to be much better than their previous outing from last season.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs , who now has a 5-12 slate, looks to end their season 94 campaign with a win as they are bound to face San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Tuesday.
Cedric Pelayo and Lugo paved the way for Mapua with 21 points, while Victoria chipped in 15 markers.
Christian Serrano chipped in a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
On the other hand, Ian Alban led Arellano with 19 points and Michael Canete finished with 15 markers and 13 boards in the losing effort.
