CEBU CITY—Mandaue City sustained its sizzling run in the 2019 Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament as it blasted Dumanjug, 76-69, at the start of the crossover quarterfinal round on Wednesday night, April 10.
Fresh from winning the Sixth District crown, Mandaue led from start to finish behind shifty guard Gab Cometa, who paced the team with 16 points.
Archie Buscay was also productive and chipped in 15 markers.
Consolacion, the losing finalist in the Sixth District finale, also got off to a solid start in the Bracket B of the quarters after it dumped Sogod, 98-79.
Keith Padoyogdog topped Consolacion with 29 points, while Jessie Bathan donated 17.
Aside from Mandaue, Medellin and Balamban also took off to rousing starts in Bracket A after they chalked up contrasting wins.
Medellin crushed Samboan, 90-59, while Balamban labored hard before downing Dumanjug, 77-71.
Also emerging victorious in Bracket B were Minglanilla and Tuburan with the former trashing Tabuelan 95-69, and the latter drubbing Algeria 98-75.
The 14 quarterfinalists will be playing in a single-round robin in their respective brackets with the two advancing to the crossover semis of the cash-rich grassroots basketball league.
