CEBU CITY—Sommy Managor and Kurt Trangia combined forces to carry the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors to a 62-53 downing of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars on Tuesday, October 22, in the college division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Managor piled up 15 points and nine rebounds while Trangia collected 13 points and 10 boards as the duo did most of the damage in USC’s seventh win in 10 games.
Also playing a key role in the victory that shoved the Warriors to solo second place in the team standings was Roosvelt Jellianggao, who tallied 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
USC was all business right from the start and built a 54-39 lead late in the game.
The Jaguars put up some resistance and trimmed the deficit to nine, 45-54, inside the final four minutes of the contest.
Managor took the wind out of USJR’s sail by converting a three-point play that restored a double-digit spread for USC.
Miguel Gastador fired a game-high up 22 points but failed to save the Jaguars from tasting their eighth defeat in 10 matches.
