The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws almost fell to the hands of the University of the East Lady Warriors but they managed to escape in five sets, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9 for back-to-back wins in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
FEU could have won the match in four sets after establishing a four-point lead in the fourth frame, 20-16. However, the three consecutive unforced errors from the Lady Tamaraws sparked the stunning 9-0 run of UE to steal the set and to force a decider.
The Lady Warriors threatened to complete the comeback with an early 7-4 lead in the fifth set, but the championship experience of FEU came into play as they tied the game at 8-all. Then it was the Lady Tamaraws’ turn to have a crucial run which ended the hopes of UE to pull off an upset win.
Rookie Lycha Ebon once again showcased her talent as she unleashed 21 points on 17 attacks, 3 service aces, and 1 kill block to lead FEU. Celine Domingo was not far behind with 17 markers of her own, including the team-high 6 kill blocks.
Mean Mendrez finally had a breakthrough outing with 21 points for the Lady Warriors.
