Letran blasts Arellano, tightens grip on third place

Manila, Philippines – Colegio de San Juan De Letran kept their groove on in a tight-knit match against Arellano University and took an 88-70 win in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament, Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Letran and Arellano had a hard time shaking off one another in the first half of the game as both teams only managed to clung on a one-point advantage in each game quarters.

With only a point lead in the middle of the third quarter, 53-52, the Knights sparked a 13-3 rally in the last two minutes with the leadership of Jerrick Balanza, who shot 11 of his 14 points in the third.

The Knights kept hold of their dominance until the fourth salvo, leading by as much as 14 points to keep the Chiefs at bay, 78-64.

Ian Alban sparked a 6-0 run for the Chiefs for 70-78, but it was also their last points until Letran wins the match.

Larry Muyang had a double-double record of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while JP Calvo chipped in 13 points and six assists.

On the other hand, Michael Canete led the Chiefs with 23 points. Rence Alcoriza had 13 points and Levi Dela Cruz added 11 points in the losing effort as Arellano dropped to a 2-3 record in the team standings.
