Coming off a straight set loss against FEU Lady Tams earlier, the Ateneo Lady Eagles recovered in time to beat Adamson Lady Falcons 21-19, 21-12 on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at MOA Sands by the Bay in Pasay City.
Ateneo and Adamson were keeping the first set tight, not letting the other team take the lead. But attacks from Jema Galanza gave the Lady Falcons a crucial two-point lead, 15-17, which forced the Lady Eagles to call for a time-out.
Michelle Morente and Kim Gequillana immediately regrouped and scored two points off attacks. An attack error by Bernadette Flora gave the lead to Ateneo, 18-17.
Flora tried to make up for that crucial error but the effort was not enough as Ateneo was able to escape and get the first set, 21-19.
The Lady Eagles started strong in the second set with three consecutive service aces from Gequillana. Maximizing their powerful offense, Ateneo maintained their momentum and pulled away to get the set and the match, 21-12.
Ateneo is now at the third spot in the standings together with La Salle and NU with 2-2 records, while Adamson is still looking for that elusive win.
In other games, FEU Lady Tams won against still-winless UE Lady Warriors, 21-10 21-15 while the DLSU Lady Spikers defeated NU Lady Bulldogs 21-16, 21-16.
