De La Salle University tallied its second straight win after a break-away third quarter against Adamson University, 71-58 at the close of UAAP Men’s Basketball’s Wednesday Quadruple header at the MOA Arena.
The San Marcelino-based squad managed to exchange blows with DLSU at the first half, scoring back and forth to put the game on a roller coaster ride. The latter’s aggressive defense made things work for them, but Adamson’s Matt Erolon led the 8-2 charge with a back-to-back three to close the gap 28-26.
Ced Manzano added a few moves inside the paint to give the lead back to the Soaring Falcons, 33-32 at the half.
Things, however, were different after the half time.
The Soaring Falcons got a taste of their own medicine at the third quarter of the game against the Green Archers. After scoring a 19-9 run against Ateneo last Saturday, Adamson could not prevent La Salle’s uprising of 23 unanswered points to balloon the lead, 58-38.
The balanced offense of La Salle continued to make wonders for them, creating momentum with Kevin Quiambao and Michael Phillips’ dunks. Evan Nelle and Joaquin Manuel also chipped in during the third period rush of the Green Archers.
Joem Sabandal ended the drought for Adamson with a three, but the lead was too big to recover going into the final minutes of the game.
Quiambao continued his consistent performance for the Green Archers with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and one block. Phillips was just shy of a double-double performance of 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks on a plus-17 efficiency.
Nelle sustained his newfound rhythm with a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds including five assists.
The win secured La Salle’s second place spot with National University at 3-1 while Adamson fell to 2-2 on a triple tie with Ateneo and UE.
