JRU RECORDS FIRST WINNING STREAK AFTER DEFEATING ST. BENILDE

The Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers finally had their first winning streak after defeating the College of Saint Benilde Blazers, 81-53 on Friday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
“Sa wakas, naka-back-to-back wins narin kami,” said JRU Coach Vergel Meneses. “We displayed the same intensity today like our last game against EAC. The players displayed good decision making.”
The Heavy Bombers limited the Blazers to just seven points in the second frame to gain a comfortable 38-19 lead and led by as much as 31 points in the final quarter.
JRU topped the Blazers from the field with a 46 percent shooting clip, while Benilde was limited to just 25 percent. The Heavy Bombers also led with rebounds, 52-37 from the Blazers.
Ervin Grospe led JRU with 14 points, TeyteyTeodora added 13 markers and Jed Mendoza had 12 points.
Abdulwahab Abdulrazak had a double-double performance with 10 points and 18 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Carlo Young led the Blazers with 14 points, Edward Dixon added 13 markers.
JRU is up to a 4-3 win-loss record in the team standings with two games remaining in the first round, while Saint Benilde dropped to 2-6 record.
JRU will try to continue on their winning streak as they face the San Sebastian Stags on Thursday, August 24, while Saint Benilde will take on the Arellano Chiefs on Tuesday, August 22.
