After being snapped from a four-game winning streak from a double overtime loss, the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers bounced back and defeated Letran Knights, 77-68 on Thursday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Heavy Bombers lifted to a 7-4 slate, keeping hold of the third seed in the tournament, while the Knights spiraled down to a 5-6 card after accumulating its third straight loss.
“Character ng team coming from a heartbreaking loss against Arellano showed at this win at importante kasi how we bounce back from that,” said JRU Coach Vergel Meneses.
JRU was able to move past Letran early in the second quarter with Teytey Teodoro leading the squad. The Heavy Bombers led by mas much as 16 points, 64-48 after MJ Dela Virgen drove a basket with only 7:34 ticks left in the game.
Teodoro paced the Heavy Bombers with 15 points along with Ervin Grospe, who finished with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jed Mendoza added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Abdulwahab Abdulrazak took 14 rebounds in the win.
On the other hand, JP Calvo led Letran with a game-high 21 points, while Rey Nambatac chipped in 14 points and Bong Quinto had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
