The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws extended their winning streak to four after defeating the University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses in straight sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Saturday, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After an 11-all deadlock to start the first set, FEU made a run sparked by an emphatic block of Chin Basas on Sisi Rondina to pull away from the struggling UST squad. A tip by Bernadette Pons gave the Lady Tamaraws the first set.
FEU had a hard time in the second frame as the Lady Tigresses showed determination in attempting to pull off a comeback. Down 15-22, Carla Sandoval and Sisi Rondina carried UST to cut the lead of the Lady Tamaraws to just two points. But they fell short as Rondina committed a net error.
The Lady Tamaraws continued the momentum in the third set to deny another comeback attempt from the Lady Tigresses. Another error from UST ended the set in favor of FEU.
No FEU player was in double-digit, but the well-distributed scores of Chin Basas (8), Celine Domingo (8), Bernadette Pons (7) and setter Kyle Negrito (7) did the job for the Lady Tamaraws.
Meanwhile, Sisi Rondina tallied her lowest output this season after being held down to just 11 points, below the 12 markers of Carla Sandoval.
Player of the Game: Kyle Negrito, 22 excellent sets and 7 points
