Manila, Philippines – The Far Eastern University showed how much they prepared for the game after defeating Adamson University, 88-85, in the overtime match to clinch their fourth win in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
FEU now holds to second place with a 4-2 win-loss record all the while breaking Adamson’s winning streak. The Soaring Falcons now shares the No. 1 spot with defending champions Ateneo De Manila University with a 5-1 slate.
The Tamaraws were in full hold of the game as they led by as much as 17 points in the third period, until the combined forces of Jerrick Ahanmisi and Sean Manganti took a late-rally in the fourth that tied the game at 78-all.
Michael Escoto tried to keep them at bay with a basket, 80-78, but Simon Camacho was at the right spot for the Bulldogs and sent the game to overtime, 80-all.
The two teams just kept scoring back-to-back points, until the 20-second mark when Barkley Ebona knocked down the basket that gave them an 88-85 lead.
Ahanmisi tried to shoot a triple twice, but the Tamaraws blocked all his attempts until time ran out.
Arvin Tolentino led FEU with 19 points, while Hubert Cani and Wendell Comboy combined for 27 markers.
On the other hand, Ahanmisi finished with 21 points and six rebounds, while Manganti chipped in 20 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists in the losing effort.
