La Salle seemed to be a handful for the rebuilding UST squad when they faced each other in a rubber match where the Green Archers defeated the Growling Tigers 83-70.
These two teams are no strangers to each other for they have faced each other in the postseason last year for the UAAP crown. Championship atmosphere was felt around the Mall of Asia Arena where it was filled with a crowd of green and gold cheering for their respective teams.
Despite Norbert Torres and Kib Montalbo’s early exit due to injuries, DLSU’s bench players seemed to have found a way to keep them up and make contributions for their injured teammates. Super sub Julian Sargent made a couple of big shots in the 4th quarter to expand DLSU’s lead. He finished with 10 points.
Norbert Torres had a cut on his finger in the first half while Kib Montalbo had a leg injury early in the 2nd half.
The Growling Tigers struggled in crunch time due to foul troubles and a some missed shots. Aljon Mariano led the team with 20 points, rookie Louie Vigil had 19 points, while Kevin Ferrer struggled in the scoring department with 11 points.
Last year’s finals MVP Jeron Teng is on top of the list with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Jason ‘Hefty Lefty’ Perkins dominated with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
The scores:
DLSU (83) – Teng 22, Perkins 15, Rivero 12, Sargent 10, Vosotros 9, Bolick 5, Andrada 4, Tratter 4, N. Torres 2, Montalbo 0.
