THE De La Salle University made sure to comeback winning after a disastrous loss against Ateneo Blue Eagles and defeat Final Four rival Far Eastern University, 73-67 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

It was a tightly-fought game between the Green Archers and Tamaraws, with their scores both not pulling away from each other. FEU stopped La Salle from taking the lead in the second and third period, holding on to a two-point advantage, 53-51.

However, DLSU was able to overcome FEU with Aljun Melecio shooting a three with only 1:45 minutes left in the game which tied at 67-all.

Jeron Teng then shot a layup for the Green Archers that put them in a two-point lead. FEU’s Allen Trinidad turned the ball over that led to a Ben Mbala put-back which gave the Green Archers a two-possession lead and put DLSU ahead.

“We were able to execute our pace on both ends of the floor, offense and defense. It’s all about execution naman and the good thing is that we were able to convert,” said DLSU Coach Aldin Ayo.

Teng led DLSU with 17 points while Mbala had a double-double 16 points and 16 rebounds. Kib Montalbo added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists while Melecio had 12 points.

DLSU ended the double-round robin elimination round with 13 wins out of 14 games and claims the top seed.

FEU dropped to its third straight loss and fall behind the Blue Eagles with an 8-5 record in the league standings. They still have one remaining game against the University of the East.
