CEBU CITY—The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats finally broke into the win column, while the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers sustained their unbeaten run after they whipped separate foes in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Federation Inc. (CESAFI) Partner’s Cup on Saturday, June 29, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Wildcats took down the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 89-77, while the streaking Green Lancers mangled the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 93-82.
CIT-U leaned on a balanced attack to end a six-game slide as it had five players scoring in twin digits.
Jesse Aloro spearheaded CIT-U’s juggernaut with 19 points, while Ventura chipped in 15. Didoy Proel and Jemcerson Sable chipped in 14 apiece, Mark Kong had 11.
Miguel Gastador paced USJ-R with 20 points, while foreign import Arnold Azangue contributed 17.
The Wildcats were only ahead by two, 34-32, at the bend but pulled away in the third period when they racked up 13 unanswered points.
UV, meanwhile, remained unstoppable as it tightened its hold of the number one spot with a clean 4-0 (win-loss) record.
The loss ended USPF’s two-game win streak as it fell to 2-3.
In the secondary division, the USJ-R Baby Jaguars nailed their fourth win in five games by trampling the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, 74-64.
Diether Go keyed USJ-R’s win by tallying 19 points. Kevin Guibao also played big for the Jaguars and netted 18.
