Manila, Philippines – With the leadership of new recruit Edgar Charcos, University of Perpetual Help Altas defeated the Letran Knights, 78-75 in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament, Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Charcos, who was recruited from University of the East, tallied 27 points, 22 of which came from the first half, along with four assists.
It was a tough game from the get-go, with the teams only taking a slim one-point lead from each other.
However, JP Calvo came alive for the Letran Knights coming into the fourth with seven straight points that gave a 71-65 advantage against Perpetual.
Jelo Razon, Charcos and Kim Aurin answered back with individual triples for Perpetual that gave them back the lead.
Calvo stepped up for the Knights to hopefully put the game on dreadlock, but his attempt to drive the ball to the basket was faced by a hard block from big man Prince Eze.
With only 13.2 seconds left in the game, Charcos split his penalty shots for a 78-75 score. Calvo managed to rebound the ball and had the chance to tie the game once again, but the time soon ran out.
Razon added 13 points and seven rebounds for the win, while Eze had seven points, 15 boards and six blocks.
On the other hand, John Quinto led Letran with 15 points.
