After a 60-year title drought, the NU Bulldogs finally won the championship after defeating the mighty FEU Tamaraws 75-59 in Game 3 of their best-of-three finals series.
Despite the Tamaraws charging in the opening minutes led by Mike Tolomia who scored 11 points in the 1st quarter, the Bulldogs came back on attack mode and eventually took the lead which made it hard for FEU to recover.
With their defense as the backbone of their game, the Bulldogs has forced FEU to a lot of errors and missed shots resulting the Tams to commit a game low 30.7% from the field compared to their 44.4%.
Big man Alfred Aroga was on beast mode with 24 points, 18 rebounds, 2 blocks, and eventually the Finals MVP award. Gelo Alolino chipped in with 12 markers, while Glenn Khobuntin and JJ Alejandro contributed with 10 respectively.
FEU’s starters has outscored NU’s five 46-28, headed by Mike Tolomia who had 23 points and team captain Mac Belo with 17.
With the win, the Bulldogs finished their fairy tale run on a winning note after surviving a total of 5 do-or-die games at the end of the elimination rounds this season. They are also the first #4 seed to win the championship in the Final Four era.
