It was a tight match between the two squads, but Bong Quinto made sure that Letran Knights will take the win after his go-ahead layup capped off the match against Perpetual Help Altas, 63-61, Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament.

Quinto was able to push himself forward with a clutch basket with 12.6 seconds left to lift the Colegio de San Juan de Letran past University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.

“Talagang nagtatrabaho sila para makuha yungp analo,” said Letran Coach Jeff Napa. “Talagang pinakita nila yung character ng team especially yung veterans.”

Prince Eze shot two free throws for a 61-56 lead over the Knights, but Quinto was able to shoot baskets later on to keep the squad boosted. A JP Calvo trey on the left corner knot the game with 1:33 minutes left to play and Quinto took his winning shot to end the match.

Altas could have forced the game into an overtime, but Gab Dagangon missed the shot for the team after a bad GJ Ylagan pass.

Quinto finished with an almost double-double record with 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Rey Nambatac had 12 points and 15 rebounds while Jerrick Balanza added another 12 points and two rebounds, while Calvo had 11 points.

Eze had a game-high 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Dagangon had 10 points and four rebounds.

Letran will face San Sebastian on Tuesday, August 15, while Perpetual Altas will take on the Arellano Chiefs on the same day.
