Robert Bolick might have struggled offensively in the San Beda’s 67-65 win over Perpetual in the NCAA season 94 opening, but the King Lion came through for the defending champions when it mattered most.
This time he didn’t make a crucial basket like he used to as he pulled out a huge defensive stop to stave off the Altas before a raucous 19, 204 fans inside the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
With nine seconds left on the ball game and the Altas looking to tie or win the thrilling game with a triple, Bolick stole Edgar Charcos’ pass intended to Prince Eze at the halfcourt to preserve the victory for San Beda.
But despite of his late game heroic and San Beda outlasting a gritty Perpetual side, Bolick felt that they don’t deserve the win as the Mendiola-based squad didn’t ‘play as a team’ at least in his eyes.
He pointed out the assists disparity where San Beda had only five compared to Perpetual’s 19.
“Siguro pinakamasama samin assists, five assists oh. Di nangyayari yun kahit pinakaunang panahon, first time, five assists meaning we didn’t play as a team, but credit na rin for their defense, they played really great,” Bolick said.
Bolick was also displeased with his performance especially in his playmaking chores.
Itong assists sa playmaking, I did not do a good job, siguro coach Boyet will let me see the tapes, itong assists oh five compared to 19, we should have lost that game,” he rued.
“We can’t have five assists in a game tapos mananalo kami.”
Nonetheless, Bolick, coach Boyet Fernandez and the rest of the Red Lions were pleased to bag their first win of the season but insisted they’ll learn from their mistakes.
“We’re happy we got this one, a win is a win, but we’ll learn from that,” Fenandez said.
