IN the ‘Battle of Katipunan,’ the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) was vigorous against the University of the Philippines (UP), as they face each other for the first time in the UAAP Men’s Basketball tournament season 79.

The maroon and blue supporters kept their guard and attentitiveness, as they patiently waited for their respective teams to step-up in the game. But only the Ateneo crowd turned jovial as the Blue Eagles led the game and soon wrap up the match, 79-64 on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Fighting Maroons led off in the first period, with 17-13 run. However, following a quarter play, Ateneo took control over the game as they opened the second period with a 10-0 run.

Ateneo then had a big lead following in the third until UP closed the gap to four points. But Ateneo blocked UP’s following shots, and finally capped off the game.

Thirdy Ravena led the team as he exploded a double-double mark – 22 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Chi Ikeh added another 14 points and seven rebounds.

After claiming their second straight victory, the Blue Eagles climbed up to 4-2 win-loss record, a solo second in the UAAP team standings following DLSU.

Despite Paul Desiderio’s towering 25 points and six boards with Jett Manuel adding 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists, UP was not able to turn the game around. Adding up to their losses, 1-5.
