TOP-SCORERS Aaron Black and Thirdy Ravena failed to score as much for Ateneo to nab a hopeful second win against National University, losing the game 70-60 on Sunday in UAAP Men’s Basketball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
From a double-point record in their game against UST, Black and Ravena finished off with 4 and 2 points respectively against NU, leaving Mike Nieto on his own, with 14 points.
NU and ADMU were head-to-head on the first half, but Bulldogs Matt Salem and Alfred Aroga provided a spark for the team, leaving Ateneo with a big lead in the third, 49-37.
“I reminded the team to just focus on the process of our offense. Then we turned our game plan into a defensive strategy, and it did worked better,” said NU Coach Eric Altamirano.
Ateneo tried to score after NU in the fourth, closing the lead to 6 with 4 minutes left on the clock. But the Bulldogs outrun the Eagles again, putting more shots inside the basket, finishing the game with a 10-point lead.
Rev Diputado displayed a great performance and finished off with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Salem, Aroga and Reggie Morido added 12,11 and 10 points respectively, helping the team win their second game and finally share the 2-0 standing with LaSalle.
