Mac Belo had a huge game earlier in a win-or-go home battle against the defending champions DLSU where the Tamaraws shocked the Green Archers 67-64 in a heart-pounding matchup.
Belo scored 12 points in the final quarter in a stellar performance including a game-winning three-point basket.
It was a back-and-forth rubber match with both teams refusing to pull away from each other in a physical game that could be an instant classic from the very beggining.
Both teams had their fair share of scoring runs that sent the game down the wire until the final seconds.
After Norbert Torres tied the game at 64-all with 24.4 seconds left, it was up to Mike Tolomia to milk the clock and make a play for a chance to win. With a few ticks left, Tolomia went for a drive attracting the DLSU defense but was smart enough to pass to an open Mac Belo in the corner for an open three-point shot. Belo’s basket found the bottom of the net eventually the game for the Tamaraws.
Belo led all scores with 23 points and 8 rebounds, while Mike Tolomia chipped-in with 14 points and 6 assists.
Jeron Teng, meanwhile, led the Archers with 13 points while Jason Perkins and Arnold Van Opstal had 12 and 11 points respectively.
The FEU Tamaraws will be going back to the UAAP finals after 3 years and will be seeking for their 20th title.
