The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles tallied their fifth consecutive win at the expense of the Adamson University Lady Falcons after a four-set victory, 25-8, 22-25, 25-16, 25-10, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday, at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.

Ateneo displayed dominance in the first set via a 17-0 pull away to limit Adamson to just eight points where half of it came from the opponents’ errors.

However, the Lady Falcons were suddenly awakened in the second frame and stayed within reach of the Lady Eagles. After an 18-all deadlock, it was Adamson’s turn to make a late rally for the close out.

But the second set loss did not seem to bother Ateneo as they quickly recovered and did not give the Lady Falcons a chance to regain momentum. An off-the-block attack from Ponggay Gaston sealed their fifth win of the season for a 5-1 win-loss card.

It was a well-balanced distribution of attacks from the side of the Lady Eagles as Ponggay Gaston and Bea de Leon played their best game of the season so far with 16 and 14 points, respectively. They punished the defense of Adamson with combined 10 service aces out of 16.

Eli Soyud was the lone Lady Falcon who scored in double-digits with 13 points.
