The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles extended their winning streak to three after turning back the upset-conscious University of the East Lady Warriors in four sets, 25-14, 18-25, 25-13, 25-18 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Wednesday at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.

Ateneo played flawless volleyball in the game, except for the second set where their reception woes resulted to an early 8-13 disadvantage. True enough, UE tallied six (out of nine) service aces in that set alone.

The Lady Eagles cut down the deficit, 16-17, but the strong floor defense of the Lady Warriors frustrated the attackers of Ateneo and proceeded to an 8-2 run to hand them their first set loss in the second round.

However, Ateneo recovered and never looked back in the next two sets, displaying their intimidating presence at the net to escape UE. A block by the collaboration of Deanna Wong and Bea de Leon on Mary Ann Mendrez capped off the match.

Kat Tolentino had her best game this season with 22 points on 16 attacks, 5 blocks, and 1 service ace. Jhoana Maraguinot, Maddie Madayag, and Jules Samonte were also in double-figures, all thanks to the well-orchestrated plays of Deanna Wong who dished out her career-high 50 excellent sets in just four sets.

Shaya Adorador led UE with 21 points, while Kat Arado once again came up with an impressive performance, tallying 30 excellent digs and 16 excellent receptions.
