ANTIPOLO – Defending champions Ateneo De Manila University avenged their first round loss and defeated Adamson University, 62-48, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Ynares Center.
After a stunning 74-70 loss to Adamson in the first round, Ateneo came to the game more prepared than ever to clinch their 10th win out of 12 games in the tournament to stay atop the standings.
The Blue Eagles outran Adamson in the second quarter with a 17-8 run for a 26-17 advantage. Ateneo did not stop there and stretched their lead by as much as 20 points in the third quarter, 41-21, after back-to-back triples from Anton Asistio.
Jerrick Ahanmisi blasted eight consecutive points in the payoff period to cut the lead to 12 points, 56-44.
However, it was not enough to stop Ateneo from clinching the win as Matt Nieto knocked down the final basket.
Isaac Go led Ateneo with 12 points and six rebounds, while Thirdy Ravena filled the stat sheets with 10 markers, 10 boards, two steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Jerom Lastimosa led Adamson with 13 points, while Ahanmisi was limited to only 10 markers as the Soaring Falcons dropped to an 8-3 slate.
