Last season’s finalists Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University showed no mercy to their opponents, sweeping the listless University of the East and Adamson University respectively, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-12, 25-16, 25-15, Wednesday afternoon, February 22 at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.

Ateneo outscored UE in most of the skill departments, particularly on offense, having 42 attack points against the 19 of the Lady Warriors.

Although the Lady Eagles were able to win in straight sets, UE made sure that the spikers of Ateneo would have to work hard as they displayed their blocking prowess at the net.

True enough, the Lady Warriors were able to accumulate 12 block points.

Meanwhile, after their victory over NU last Sunday, La Salle continued its dominance, this time against the hapless Adamson who are still struggling in their Season 79 campaign.

Coach Padda opted to use Lynne Matias as the starting setter in lieu of the usual starter Chumcee Caole but the Lady Falcons still floundered in offense, registering only 14 attacks compared to 36 of La Salle.

Kim Dy was the top scorer for La Salle with 15 markers, while Aduke Ogunsanya was able to able to match her previous performance against the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points.

Jema Galanza and Bernadette Flora combined for only 11 points, obviously not enough to carry the Lady Falcons.

Adamson and UE fall to 0-5 while Ateneo and La Salle improve to 4-1.

Players of the Game: Michelle Morente (ADMU), 13 points (10 attacks, 3 aces) and Dawn Macandili (DLSU), 16 excellent digs and 18 excellent receptions
