Angel Canino, La Salle roll past Adamson for 6-0 mark

By Ardyn Gonzales

De La Salle Lady Spikers extended their winning streak to six after taking down the equally favorites Adamson University Lady Falcons, 22-25, 25–14, 25-16, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball, Sunday, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

The Lady Spikers showed the La Salle block party trademark, outblocking Adamson, 14-1. The ladies in green prepared well for the offense of the Lady Falcons to limit the attacks of Trisha Tubu and Kate Santiago.

After failing to snatch the opening set, La Salle bombarded Adamson with heavy serves in the succeeding sets which disrupted the reception of the Lady Falcons.

Adamson almost forced a rubber set after erasing the La Salle’s lead in the fourth frame to a single point, 11-12. But the Lady Spikers answered back with a 7-1 run to pull away and establish a comfortable advantage.

Super rookie Angel Canino once again led all scorers with 21 points including the team-high 20 attacks on top of the 17 excellent receptions. The tandem of Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma in the middle was also productive with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

They will go up against the defending champions on Wednesday in a rematch of last season’s finals.

Meanwhile, Trisha Tubu was guarded well by the La Salle blockers as she was held down to just 13 points.
