The league-leading Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles and the number four seed Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws battle in the semifinals of the UAAP season 79 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, April 23 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The twice-to-beat Ateneo is looking to enter the Finals for the sixth consecutive season and the first year without Alyssa Valdez. While FEU, who was a win way last season to the Finals, is aiming to finally make it to the championship round after failing to do so in the last seven years.

If we base it on the elimination round match-ups of the Lady Eagles and the Lady Tamaraws, the semifinals will definitely be a tight one as the two games were extended to five sets, 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11 and 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 15-8 respectively, both in favor of Ateneo.

The game between Ateneo and FEU will be offense versus defense as the Lady Eagles leads all teams in attack efficiency with a 38.01 success rate, while the Lady Tamaraws are ahead of the Lady Eagles in terms of blocking and digging with 1.75 blocks and 14.94 excellent digs per set.

If needed, the do-or-die Game 2 will be on April 26 at the same venue.
