CEBY CITY—Alcoy and Samboan forged a three-way tie at the top after they hacked out separate wins in the Second District division of the Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Alcoy Municipal Gym last Friday (March 22).
Alcoy stunned the previously undefeated Argao, 86-76, while Samboan nipped Oslob, 86-82.
The twin victories allowed Alcoy and Samboan to tie Argao at the number one spot with identical 3-1 (win-loss) records.
Hance Estrera led the way for Alcoy with 27 points, Renley de Leon added 24 markers, while RR De los Santos pitched in 16.
Jomari Parantar topped Argao with 28 points, while Jimboy Torion contributed 21.
Meanwhile in the Sixth District, Mandaue City finally barged into the win column with a dominant 104-75 win over Cordova at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Mandaue, which is mentored by Gary Cortes of the multi-titled University of the Visayas Green Lancers, snapped a two-game slide to improve to 1-2.
Kenneth Brillo paced Mandaue with 25 points and was backed by Arche Buscay, Paul Sungahid and Gab Cometa, who all scored in twin digits for a combined 46 points.
Kevin Ventura spearheaded Cordova with 28 points, while Karl Ventura chipped in 14.
In the Third District, Tuburan blasted Balamban, 86-73 at the Balamban Sports Complex.
Joyce Lee Oropiano topped Tuburan with 23 points, while Romyrkirt Gonzaga and Miguelito Jusay donated 22 and 15, respectively.
Ginatilan, on the other hand, nailed its first win in four outings after it escaped Malabuyoc, 84-81, in the Bracket B of Seventh District.
