Young football players in the country will once again take centerstage as the 19th edition of the Alaska Football Cup kicks off this Saturday at the fields of Ayala Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa. This annual football event, which started in 1995, is the biggest competition in the country with over 300 teams playing and over 4,500 players participating. The 2-day event also boasts of having more than 750 games, 30 football fields, and over a hundred game officials. Through the Football Cup, Alaska leads the growth of amateur football in the country.

Players as young as six years old up to sixteen participate in this annual event backed by Alaska Milk. Teams are comprised of various schools and football clubs in various provinces such as Masbate, Baguio, Negros OCC, Cebu, Davao, Palawan, Legaspi, Laguna, Batangas, Bukidnon, Zambales, Pampanga, Tarlac, Ilocos, Bicol, Romblon, Davao Sur, Compostela Valley, Quezon, Cavite, Albay, Pangasinan, Bacolod, Iloilo, Mindoro and Metro Manila.

The Alaska Football Cup is one of the football tournaments that young players look forward to every year. It is part of the Alaska Football Power Camp, which also holds training programs during the summer in Alabang, Fort Bonifacio and various schools in the country. The Alaska Power Camp has also been cited and recognized by the Philippine Sportwriter’s Association (PSA) for its outstanding contribution to youth sports and development in the country, particularly on the grass-roots level.

Alaska believes that sports play an important role in instilling the value of determination, discipline, hard work, team work and sportsmanship among the youth. These fundamental values develop character and are necessary attributes for success as much as good health and proper nutrition. Given the growing issues on health as well as the fast-changing technological environment which leads to the change in children’s interests and behavior or sedentary lifestyle, there is a need to reinforce its thrust in leading a healthy lifestyle not just by drinking milk but also by leading an active lifestyle. Alaska seeks to engage Filipino consumers, especially the youth, in sports.

Catch these young and aspiring football players in action this weekend as they compete in various age groups and categories. Admission is free.
