Adamson upsets defending champion Ateneo

Manila, Philippines – The Adamson University continues getting better and better in time and everyone saw that in their win against defending champs Ateneo De Manila University, 74-70, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament, Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Down 10 points in the first half, 29-39, first year player Jerom Lastimosa took charge for the Falcons as he forced three turnovers and led an 11-0 run to turn the game around.

The game remains close until the fourth salvo, when Adamson took full charge of the match.

Tied at 68-all with only 1:20 minutes left, sharp shooter Jerrick Ahanmisi knocked down a floater against big man Isaac Go to take the lead.

But, Thirdy Ravena was right there for the Blue Eagles and tied the game again.

Sean Manganti attempted a triple for the Falcons, but it bounced off the basket. Luckily, Papi Sarr was at the right place for a go-ahead basket, 72-70. A couple of freebies eventually sealed the win for Adamson.

Ahanmisi led Adamson with 23 points and four rebounds, while rookie Vince Magbuhos finished with a double-double record of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Sarr added eight points and nine rebounds.

On the other hand, Matt Nieto had 21 points, four boards and two steals for Ateneo, while Raffy Verano chipped in 10 markers and eight rebounds.
