Adamson University’s balanced game dodged University of the East’s late game push, 72-65 to get a share of third spot on Sunday night in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
Behind Rey Remogat’s heroics for the Red Warriors, they were able to catch up with the Soaring Falcons at 63-63 with less than five minutes left in the fourth period.
The joint effort of Joem Sabandal, Didap Hanapi, and Matthew Montebon stopped UE’s scoring as they glided to an 8-0 run to gain a comfortable 71-63 advantage going into the end game. Montebon’s three pointer was the nail to the coffin for the Red Warriors.
“It was a hard win against UE. Going to the game, I consider ourselves minus-five against UE kasi when you look at the numbers,” head coach Nash Racela
“(These kind of games) it helps a lot. Itong mga players namin they still lack experience. Maganda kasi it develops grit. We welcome mga games na ganito.”
Montebon finished with 13 points while Hanapi contributed nine points and seven rebounds. Ced Manzano added 13 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a block.
Despite Precious Momowei’s presence, Adamson was able to capitalize at the paint, outscoring UE 26-8.
Matt Erolon also added 10 points in his 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
“Yung sa third quarter binigyan po ako ng kumpyansa ni coach na maglaro ng A game ko,” shared Erolon.
Remogat capped the loss with a career high of 27 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. Wello Lingolingo added 15 points in their losing effort.
The loss dropped UE to 2-3 together with Ateneo de Manila University. They will look to end their slump against National University on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Soaring Falcons hope to add another win against Far Eastern University on the same schedule at the SM Mall of Asia Arena
