Manila, Philippines – The Adamson University continued their dominant ways and defeated the National University to stay unbeaten at the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament, 63-58, Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Falcons relied on their game-winning shooter Sean Manganti all throught the game, even though the stalwart had an injury in the third period after his teammate Jed Colonia accidentally landed on his legs while reaching for a rebound.
NU broke down Adamson’s comfortable 11-point cushion and took advantage of Manganti’s absence to inch closer, 39-43, in the payoff period.
However, Manganti was not just about to give up on his teammates as he returned to the game and boosted the Falcons to victory.
Simon Camacho saw what needed to be done and headed for an 8-2 run to give back Adamson’s 10-point lead, 51-41.
The Bulldogs tried to outrun Adamson time and again, but the Falcons’ steady shooting and strong defense stopped them from doing so. Manganti took into his own hands their fate with a couple of freebies that sealed the deal.
Manganti filled the stat sheets and led Adamson with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals, while Papi Sarr had a double-double record of 10 markers and 10 boards.
Dave Ildefonso finished with 14 markers as well on top of three rebounds as NU dropped to a 1-3 win-loss record.
