DESPITE being one of the young teams in the season, the Adamson University (AdU) showed off that they have the power to play strong and win against the veterans in the UAAP Men’s Basketball tournament.
They played well and conquered the second in lead, National University (NU), 64-51 on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena, finally following behind the De La Salle University (DLSU) with a 3-1 win-loss record.
It was a close game all throughout the match, but the Falcons exhibited a better offense and defense game plan, leaving the Bulldogs behind.
AdU Coach Franz Pumaren, who has deliberately commented that his team is a pack of young players, said that slowly, the players are showing their own characters that is much needed in the game.
“We are showing a bit of maturity and character in the game. People may see us as Ahanmisi, Manalang and Sarr team. But really, the bench players have contributed really well for the team in this game,” said Pumaren.
Indeed, the bench has recorded 34 points, more than what the team’s starters produced.
Papi Sarr scored a game-high double-double record with 13 points and 17 boards. While Frederick Tungcab added 11 points.
Jerrick Ahanmisi still set out as an exemplary player for the Falcons, after a three-point play that gave his team a 56-51 lead with just two minutes left on the clock.
Adamson back-up center Kristian Bernardo also became a an important member of the team. He scored seven points just in the fourth quarter of the game.
Alfred Aroga led NU with 17 points and 13 boards for NU. The Bulldogs now tied with Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), and Far Eastern University with 2-2 win-loss record in the UAAP standing.
