The National University Lady Bulldogs shrugged off a sorry second set loss and survived the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-17, 13-25, 25-17, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Bella Belen finished with 19 points on 15 attacks, two kill blocks, and two service aces and tallied 19 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions for an all-around performance. Alyssa Solomon was also unstoppable with 25 markers.
After a convincing first set win, NU was paralyzed in the second frame no thanks to their disrupted defense pattern, which made their offense struggle.
The Lady Bulldogs’ coach Norman Miguel changed their rotation in the third and inserted rookie setter Abe Pono, who turned things around for NU as they recovered and got the succeeding sets.
NU’s offense was like a well-oiled machine as the wingers Belen, Solomon, and Vange Alinsug took care of the scoring department.
Gerz Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 17 points, with Jean Asis and Chenie Tagaod conniving for 20.
NU tallied their fourth straight win and is still tied with La Salle at 4-1. On the other hand, FEU is in fifth spot with a 2-3 card.
