University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses completed a rare elimination round sweep against the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, 25-22, 25-20, 27-29, 25-21, as they kept hold of the second spot in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Saturday, at the PhilSports Arena.
Imee Hernandez registered her career-high performance this season with 24 points on 19 attacks, three kill blocks, and two service aces, while Eya Laure was in her usual self, finishing with 27 points and 16 excellent digs.
After losing an extended third set, the tandem of Hernandez and Laure proved to be a force to be reckoned with as they averted a five-setter match after leading a 7-1 run in the fourth set to finish the match.
Regina Jurado and Milena Alessandrini also contributed 10 points apiece.
Meanwhile, the loss of Ateneo marked the end of their streak in entering the Final Four.
Faith Nisperos led the Lady Eagles with 31 points but it was not enough to salvage their campaign this season. The next top scorer for Ateneo only had 11 points courtesy of senior Vanie Gandler.
