The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters barged into the win column in style as they shocked the defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 72-64, on Sunday, September 15, in the junior’s division of the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Shane Menina tallied 19 points and seven assists as UC snapped a two-game slide to improve to 1-2.
UC’s reinforcement Tosh Sesay was also superb with 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a block, John Jabello dumped of 10 point and nine rebounds, four assists while Paul Galinato added10.
Jancork Cabahug was the only UV player to score in twin digits with 14 as the Green Lancers slid to 1-1.
In the junior’s division, the defending champions UC Baby Webmasters and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers cruised to their second straight victories after they blasted their respective opponents.
The Baby Webmasters routed the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 74-51, as they sustained the momentum of their 87-46 mangling of the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers.
Nathaniel Micutuan and Gabriel Leonard powered UC by firing 13 points, Isaiah Blanco, son of former PBA star Dondon Hontiveros, chipped in 12 markers.
Also improving to 2-0 (win-loss) were the Baby Panthers, who nipped the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, 71-54.
Christopher Isabelo led the Baby Panthers with 12 points.
