CEBU CITY–Roosvelt Jellianggao returned from a one-game suspension with a vengeance as he lifted the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors over the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 62-55, in the senior’s division of the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament on Saturday, September 14, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Jelliangao, who was meted with a one-game suspension following his ejection in their previous game, came away with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists to lead USC’s second win in three games.
Jules Langres also played big for the Warriors as he knocked down eight straight points that handed USC a 47-42 lead, entering the final quarter.
USJ-R stole the upper-hand, 52-51, but Jelliangao came to USC’s rescue by scoring the team’s next seven points, putting the Warriors on top, 58-52, inside the final two-minute zone.
Sommy Managor backed Jellianggao with 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Renz Solomon netted 17 points for USJ-R, which tasted its first loss in two games.
The Southwestern University (SWU) Phinma Cobras, on the other hand, wrested the solo top spot, nabbing their second win in as many games with an 86-66 drubbing of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers.
Senegal import Mamadow Lamine Thiam topped the Cobras with 24 points.
In the junior’s division, the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers bounced back from a faulty start by pulling off a 57-48 win over the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles.
