The recently appointed head coach of the Philippine Azkals, Terry Butcher, announced his resignation today, August 3 after being with the team in only less than two months.

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) was shocked with the decision made by Coach Butcher as they are currently preparing for the 2018 Suzuki Cup and the 2019 Asian Cup in UAE.

“We wish Mr. Butcher good luck. The PFF will continue with the necessary team preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 this November and the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 in January 2019.”

Azkals team manager, Dan Palami also expressed his thoughts regarding the matter and how disappointing his departure was for the team.

“We understand and respect Mr Terry Butcher’s decision not to continue with his role as National Team coach of the Philippines. As manager of the National Team, I was looking forward to working with Mr Butcher as we build a strong team for the country’s first Asian Cup. It is unfortunate, however, that Mr Butcher had expressed difficulty in executing his plans for the national team program.”

As of the moment, former Thai Premier League champion coach, Irish Cooper will be appointed as the temporary head coach of the National team and help them prepare for their Bahrain camp beginning September 3.
